Hills Community Tennis - Fall League 2011

Rules & Format

  • Every player will play a minimum of 2 sets in a match.
  • A match will consist of up to 8 sets (any combination of gender doubles, mixed-doubles and singles) played between two teams using 2 courts.  There will be up to 4 rounds of play. Captains will have to agree on the number of rounds based on the available players.
  • Play starts with a racquet spin to determine which team serves first.
  • Each set will be played with regular scoring (with ads) and a 7-point tie breaker if needed.
  • 45 minutes time limit per round - total match time 3 hours (8:45am - 11:45am)
  • Players can complete a service game (or the tie-breaker) if it has started before the 45 time limit is up.
  • Each set will be played with regular scoring (with ads) and a 7-point tie breaker if needed. The players can complete the tie-breaker, in case the 45-min limit is reached when it has already started.
  • There is a 1-game penalty per 0.25 rating difference per set.  Penalty points are subtracted at the end of the match.
  • The winner of the match is determined by the total number of games won after including all penalties in those sets.  The winning team gets 2 points.  In case of a tie, both teams receive 1 point.
  • In case of a tie in the league standings, the tie-breaker is the %age of games won.

Important Note: All warmups should be completed before 8:45, as the tight schedule requires matches beginning promptly upon completion of prior match.  Please arrive early if you would like to warmup!

During in-progress matches that are interrupted by rain, the following rules apply.

  • It is up to the captains to agree when the courts are deemed unplayable due to inclement weather, and when to call the match.
  • A match that has completed 4 or more sets is considered a completed match.
  • A match that has NOT completed 4 sets when it is interrupted will not be counted.  They will be rescheduled for a rain date, and started over to play its entirety.
